There is a new Texas law going into effect on January 1, 2026, requiring everyone who downloads an app will be required to provide ID. This is for both minors and adults. Minors will be required to be part of a "Family Sharing Group" where parents approve/disapproves the app download for the minor.
Basically, anyone who creates an account with an app store, like Apple or Google Play will be asked to verify age.
If an app is non-compliant, then Texas law will find the app in violation under Section 121.101 of the Texas law and is subject to legal action from the state as this counts as deceptive trade practices.
If you provide an app, you might want to consider what changes you should make to be compliant with this new Texas law.
