The Berman amendments create an exception to the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, or IEEPA, for informational materials, however, making them “the biggest problem right now” in adopting a measure to ban
TikTok and similar apps based in potentially hostile foreign countries, according to an aide to Mr. McCaul, the incoming chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
Lawmakers wishing to ban or restrict Chinese-owned TikTok, one of the many hurdles they face is a pair of measures passed by Congress decades ago to let films, books and music flow freely between the U.S. and hostile foreigncountries.

Is anyone paying attention to the legislation our congress has sent to the senate for approval of the conditions of Tiktok to continue in the US? People call it a ban, but this is not a ban unless Byte Dance refuses to sell TikTok to the US. Congress has sent legislation to the senate to debate banning Tiktok if Byte Dance of Beijing refuses to sell Tiktok to a US company. The ban only comes after 6 months. Congress is also asking for all of the data that Tiktok has to be turned over to the US. Byte Dance already says their servers are in the US. I can't be certain, as I haven't researched this fully. We all know how servers work and data information. If the US forces Byte Dance to sell with the condition that all the user information/data is now in the US, how can we know that Byte Dance won't retain a copy to put it simply?
I'm basically debating this legislation. Some would also argue the fact that Tiktok is the biggest social institution with billions of users and it's been alleged that because they are a Chinese owned company that they are less then disingenuous to put it nicely with all of the user data they have and that is the biggest reason to acquire Tiktok?
