Google has added new censorship tools to combat misinformation from their Google News Lab in collaboration with news journalists. "Fact checkers" and approved journalist will be part of this program to report "not authentic" or "not accurate news". Google News Lab: The News Lab is a team within the Google News Initiative whose mission is to collaborate with journalists to fight misinformation, strengthen diversity, equity and inclusion within news, and support learning and development through digital transformation. https://newsinitiative.withgoogle.com/en-gb/resources/google-news-lab/ Google News Initiative: The Google News Initiative works with publishers and journalists to fight misinformation, share resources and build a diverse and innovative news ecosystem. https://newsinitiative.withgoogle.com/en-gb/ Google's Initiative on misinformation is part of a plan through the UN: Our Common Agenda Policy Brief 5A Global Digital Compact —an Open, Free and Secure Digital Future for All https://www.un.org/sites/un2.un.org/files/our-common-agenda-policy-brief-gobal-digi-compact-en.pdf Relevant United Nations entities, such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization through its recommendation on the ethics of AI and the World Health Organization (WHO) through its Ethics and governance of artificial intelligence for health: WHO guidance, could support stakeholders in developing sector-specific due diligence and impact assessments Saying the quiet part quietly again.

I don't quite know what to make of this! And I'm still not sure about AI again especially when it comes to health either. And Google, what has Google become? It started out as a simple search engine but must have amassed an enormous amount of data over the years, so what exactly has it become, what now is it's main purpose? I don't know!

We are thinking on the same lines. Google's purpose is so much more than a search engine and as I looked around these Google links, shared by this article, I kept thinking how did I miss the Google Lab and Google News Initiative? It's not like it wasn't there all along, but it's one of those "things" that if you don't know what to ask you don't know and in this case, if you don't know this exists in Google you wouldn't be looking for it. AI bothers me too. It's use is accelerating like tribbles. Google's purpose... that was the quiet part I was saying quietly. Indeed, Google has a lot of data, it's what they are doing with the data that's bugging me.

Wow, just out of interest I decided to do a search, on Google of all places, "google law suits" and I can't believe how much came up, maybe you should look yourself because there are way too many to list here but here's one link that might interest you:

My turn....OH WOW!! Just opened your link, no kidding! Good find @Mark Ransome! Looking at the lawsuit list right now but so far what I'm seeing is Google has gotten a pass on a lot of these lawsuits but has lost some too? Delving into it now. I like that the Wiki put the lawsuits in categories too!

Good article and terrifying. I quoted the terrifying part from your article:

One of the biggest concerns from the findings and from legislators is the data from global internet users that gets passed around to companies within the digital ad buying process. This treasure trove of user data, called bidstream data, is used as part of a half a trillion dollar digital ad industry that is dominated by Google, ProPublica says.

ProPublica says that this data is auctioned off in real-time when users visit a site, whereupon entering "within milliseconds, data collected about this user is shared with potential ad buyers to help them decide whether to bid to show an ad to the user." Ad buying companies like RuTarget, regardless if they bid or not, can receive and store this bidstream data. And since Google operates the world's largest ad-buying exchange, the more RuTarget connects with ad exchanges like Google's, the more data and information it can collect.
