Artemis !! - Moon and Back

I watched with interest the launch, return splash down and the welcome home greetings for the 4 astronauts, what I found interesting was how the NASA representative described it, he emphasised it was a dangerous mission, the Artemis rocker had not been tested on a crewed flight flight as yet.

This puts into perspective then by comparison how incredible the Apollo 13 mission was.  They both flew almost identical routes, a slingshot around the Moon, it was Apollo 13's record that Artemis broke (furthest crewed journey away from earth).

The Artemis had not been tested with a crewed flight but was planned with 2020s science and technology.

The Apollo 13 route was unplanned, a damaged space vehicle and 1970s technology, absolutely amazing.

I watched it all as well, and 10 days in that cramped capsule starting off with a broken toilet which they fixed!

What amazed me was that the re-entry sheild was new and hadn't been tested before humans flew in it, risky.

But all went well and I was glad to see the crew back, amazing. 🤩

Watching launches and splash downs of courageous astronauts never gets old for me either.  When I was young, my parents always had the TV on to watch those moments.  I also had a little 45 record that I'd play often of the astronaut's flight.  Very amazing stuff indeed!
