Nowadays most people have some social media connection, whatsapp is the worlds most popular messenger but of course it is owned by Facebook.
Here is a quite fascinating 20 minute video on how the identity of a person was discovered even though they were posting under an anonymous name.

Thanks, Geffers! I'll watch your video this week. Hard to believe an anonymous person's real identification was uncovered in such short time. I had a childhood friend find me after 50 years. She put her friend to task and was able to find me. At first it was a bit unsettling, but she turned out to be legitimate and is literally a real life rocket scientist. We are not friends again after all of this time and occasionally catch up through email.
Nowadays it is almost impossible to by anonymous. With facial recognition you only need to be in the background of a friend's photo uploaded to Google or Icloud and anonymous no more. Plus some friend or relative with have your details, birthday etc in some online calendar.
It is what it is and we have to accept that and play the game with today's rules.

Agreed...and taking photo's with your friends can also be an issue, because no matter how you may feel about fakebook, your friends will always be posting their life online and that often includes you too. This has happened to me too many times.
