Google loses Customers' Data

    Google totally loses customers' data.

    Got an email from Google today, first paragraph as follows;

    We briefly experienced a technical issue that caused the deletion of Timeline data for some people. We're reaching out as your account may have been impacted..

    This 'technical issue' has caused the deletion of data with NO BACK UP by Google.  This is not a data breach, this is a complete loss of data.

    Now losing details of where you have been, or bookmarks of locations you have visited is not the end of the World but Google, one of the biggest companies in the World has completely lost customers' data, now imaging if this happens to your BANK.

    Oh good grief, if a bank did this it would be so much worse.  Did you notice any missing data?  I didn't get one of these emails, however, I have multiple emails I don't always log in too.  I'm going to go check.  Thank you for the heads up!

    Yes, all my map history is gone, places I had visited, bookmarks to places of interest, all gone.

    Not the end of the world to lose that but I do wonder, this is not a breach, it is a total loss of data.  If Google can lose such data I do wonder how safe is money in the bank.  Paper copy may be of use but so easy to create false info would they accept that?

    I"m so sorry you lost all of that data. 😢 It is scary to think about bank data being lost.  My dh and I have talked about that on occasion, like the value of paper statements and everyone wants you to go paperless.  Then even if you had a paper statement they wouldn't likely be able to honor it because their data is lost.  I shudder when I think of these issues as they are on such a high magnitude of total distress if you lost access to your bank funds.
