Flying Scotsman - Steam Locomotive

In my post https://techsrealm.com/feed/1930 I posted a photo of the Pacific Ocean from a train window. Trains were mentioned which prompted me to post this thread about the British steam loco, the Flying Scotsman.

Very interesting video on the Flying Scotsman. This train had such a long life, lots of different owners and ran on tracks in different places as this iconic steam engine would carry passengers to and fro.
I loved seeing all of the historic pictures too. I'm glad it's in a good resting place and had a happy ending and not scrapped like so many ships, aircraft and trains are.
My great Uncle was either a brakeman or engineer on a train that served people in Pennsylvania in the early 20th century.
Trains have a warm place in our families memories and have always been part of Christmas during my childhood. My dad had a huge train city he would set up every year, and it was so large, the Christmas tree would sit in the middle. The train city platform balanced on two wood horses.
March 21, 2024 4:54 PM PDTThere is a wonderful old British movie called the Railway Children, not exactly a Christmas movie but one I tend to watch at Christmas, if trains have a warm place in your family I'd recommend you watch. Real old feel good movie.
If you do watch the original 1970 version, they did a remake later, one of the children in the first movie played the mother in the second movie, not as good in my opinion so go for the 1970 version.

Yes, toy trains have been a tradition in our family at Christmas. Thanks for sharing this movie, it looks really fun and interesting.
March 22, 2024 2:00 PM PDTMight be wrong but pretty sure in the movie they refer to a train called the 'Scots Flyer' or similar, not the Flying Scotsman.

March 22, 2024 10:26 PM PDTWatched the documentary 100 years of the Flying Scotsman. Think it was 2023 the centenary anniversary. Most entertaining.
I have seen that loco in real life, all the oldxsteam engines are magnificent.

March 24, 2024 8:06 AM PDTThat would be a powerful moment to actually see the Flying Scotman in real life. I haven't been to museums in a long time, though I love and appreciate history in human achievements. When I was young, my dad would take us to see the Blue Angels perform. We would stand next to the chain linked fence looking over the vast runway at the activity and then glance above at the aviation performance of these pilots and their skilled aerial craft.
